What is a reciprocal link?

In the simplest terms a reciprocal link is a mutual link exchange between two sites, when two websites swap links to point at each other’s website. If you agree with another webmaster that each website places a link on its website to the other website then you have a reciprocal link.

Why lingk exchange will give me better placements on SEs?

Many search engines use what is called "Spiders" to crawl the internet and index new and updated old web site. If your site does not exist in the google.com; for example that means that google.com they have not indexed your site yet.
